Article Submissions

Original Research Articles

Research articles submitted to JYI must be written by the undergraduate or team of undergraduates who conducted the research. Articles written by graduate students may be submitted so long as the author was an undergraduate at the time the research was performed. However, the manuscript must be submitted to JYI within one year of graduation from the undergraduate institution.

Research submissions should adhere to the following general format: Abstract, Introduction, Methods and Materials, Results, Discussion and Conclusion, References. All appropriate references must be cited wherever used and should include a number of original research manuscripts from the field of study. They should include tables, figures and videos that illustrate the author’s research and conclusions and should be directed toward an audience of undergraduate science majors.

Authors are required to print and submit a Manuscript Packet for each submission:

1. The author must print and complete the Author Pre-submission Checklist.  This should be uploaded as a Supplemental File along with your manuscript.

2. The author and the primary research supervisor must fill out the JYI Author Contract to accept the JYI Copyright Policy and select their Creative Commons License of choice for the submission. After an author’s Submission Form, Advisor Approval Form, and paper have been received, the Senior Research Editor will contact the author. The submission must meet all of the requirements listed in the Submission Guidelines, or it will be not be reviewed.
